Development application / statutory & land use planning / retail & shopping centres
Location: Cairns, Queensland
Client:
Raintree Shopping Centre
Summary:
MasterPlan, in collaboration with partner consulting firms Progetto Design (architects) and PSA Consulting (traffic engineering and transport planning), was engaged to oversee the preparation, submission, and management of a development application for the redevelopment of sections of the Raintree Shopping Centre in Cairns, North Queensland.
Challenge and Solution:
The proposed redevelopment aimed to relocate the existing Woolworths store to a superior and slightly larger space equipped with a state-of-the-art loading dock and a new Woolworths Click and Collect facility. Additionally, it sought to create opportunities for two mini-majors to become part of the shopping centre. This project entailed the construction of a dual capacity loading dock for deliveries to the new Woolworths tenancy, internal reconfiguration of the existing centre office, and adjustments to parking and site access arrangements.
Key Results:
In January 2020, the Cairns Regional Council granted approval for the development application, subject to specific conditions. Angaet Property Management announced that the first stage of the project would be completed by the end of 2020, marking a significant step forward in the redevelopment of the Raintree Shopping Centre.
