Guided planning for revitalisation of a heritage entertainment venue, enabling renewed cultural activation while preserving historic character.

MasterPlan assisted the City of West Torrens in securing planning consent for the redevelopment of the iconic Thebarton Theatre. Currently under construction, this project will revitalise the State Heritage-listed venue, preserving its cultural and historical significance while ensuring its continued role as a premier entertainment destination for local, national, and international performers.

The redevelopment includes a new two-storey entrance, landscaped outdoor plaza, and a range of upgrades designed to enhance the visitor experience, ensuring the long-term sustainability of this treasured heritage site.

A key feature of the project is the activation of the prominent South Road and Henley Beach Road corner. The contemporary built form addition thoughtfully complements the site’s heritage values, blending modern design with the original historical character. Continuing the tradition of showcasing upcoming acts and artists, a new LED screen will replace the well-loved billboard on the eastern façade of the theatre, offering a dynamic and modernised way to communicate with theatre-goers.
